Kurouto Kitchenware is an online specialty retail shop specialized in premium kitchenware tools.
Kurouto was inspired by travels to Tokyo’s Kappabashi-dori district and aims to bring the Japanese product ethos to US markets. Their focus is to bring people together through time spent cooking in the kitchen.

Translated from Japanese, Kurouto means “an expert or professional.”

We worked together to create a brand identity and package that would pay homage to the tradition and premium craftsmanship of Japanese knives, while giving it a sleek, minimalist feel. This project included a brand identity design, a hand-drawn logo, a word mark laser-etched onto knife blades, information booklets, and a membership card. These were all enclosed within premium packaging. The Kurouto tiger is an intricate, hand-drawn illustration that we simplified for laser etching purposes. We created a custom designed, slate grey magnetic box with a spot gloss emblem of the Kurouto tiger. The box opens to reveal details about the blade and knife handle. The Kurouto Kitchenware line currently includes a 5″ Utility Knife, a 7″ Santoku Knife, an 8″ Chef’s Knife, and is on the cusp of launching their 4th knife to the collection–a 3.5″ Paring Knife.
